Welcome to Hyderabad!

The capital of Telangana, India is known by the sobriquet City of Pearls. The city is one of the largest metros in India and is the fourth most populous city and the sixth-most populous urban agglomeration in the country.

It displays a perfect blend of modernization while retaining its rich and ancient charm and grandeur at the same time. The name Hyderabad means 'the city of Nizams'. Nizams were the Muslim rulers of the Deccan region and were considered to be one of the wealthiest rulers, which is aptly reflected in the city's grandeur.

The city has a vibrant tourism industry with tourists flocking all around the year. The old city boasts of some ancient architectural marvels like forts, palaces, museums while the new city has modern places like shopping malls, parks, science centers.

The teeming bazaars of the old city, in the midst of which stands the 400-year-old Charminar, the restaurants, modern shopping complexes and ultra-modern malls in the newer areas of the city add to the charm of Hyderabad. The Golconda Fort, capital of the kingdom by that name, is today very much part of the city, as is Cyberabad (means Cyber City), a new neighborhood created to keep pace with the zooming Information Technology & Tourism sector.

For an outsider interested in getting a slice of the Hyderabadi way of life, "Hyderabadi Dum Biryani"  from the old city, is one of the best flavors to relish on.

What makes Hyderabad more interesting is that the New York Times' Travel list of 'The 41 Places to Go in 2011' carries Hyderabad on the 19th position, being described as a place of 'Dynastic grandeur in the heart of modern India. Apart from all other attractions, it is the debut of two five-star hotels, both connected to the Nizam family, rulers of Hyderabad. The first, Park Hotel Hyderabad, is a futuristic structure designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with an aluminum and glass facade inspired by the settings and metalwork found in the Nizams' jewelry collection.

The new Taj Falaknuma Palace, on the other hand, is a window into the past. It's a wedding cake of a building that still belongs to the Nizam family, and it took the Taj Hotels group 10 years to renovate the European-style castle. The Falaknuma Palace completes the Indian palace tour for the south.

All this makes a trip to Hyderabad worthwhile just on its own.
