Ovarian Stimulation and Egg Retrieval

Fertility medicines stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Mature eggs are retrieved under short sedation.

Sperm Collection

A semen sample is produced on the day of retrieval. If sperm count is zero or very low, sperm are extracted directly from the testicle through a surgical procedure.

Sperm Processing & Selection

The sperms are washed using the density gradient technique. One healthy sperm is selected for each egg.

Injection

The egg is held with a holding pipette. A single sperm is drawn into a tiny pipette and injected directly into the cytoplasm of the mature egg. The fertilised egg is then placed in an incubator.

Embryo Transfer & Follow-Up

In standard IVF, eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish and fertilisation happens naturally. In ICSI, one sperm is injected directly into one egg. ICSI is used when sperm quality is too poor for natural fertilisation in the lab or when previous IVF cycles had low fertilisation rates.
Yes. When no sperm are present in the semen, sperm can be retrieved directly from the testicle through a surgical procedure. The retrieved sperm are then used for ICSI. Your doctor will confirm whether surgical sperm retrieval is suitable based on your diagnosis.
